I think my temperature hit 101 this morning (Fahrenheit, thankfully), and the best I could do was sit on the couch in my home (semi-intelligent in solidarity with my condition) and ponder what to say about blockchain that hasn’t been said before. Well, lots has been said but has anyone actually sung a song about blockchain? There are probably some very good reasons why I should reread that last sentence and stop while I’m ahead, but common sense seems pointless in my current state. So here goes, with apologies to Henry Dacre, my poetry teachers, and all those true believers in a technology I generally find ridiculous.
Blockchain, Blockchain,
(To the tune of… Bicycle Built For Two, as sung by an IBM 7094 circa 1961)
Blockchain, Blockchain,
What should we do with you?
We’re half crazy, everyone’s gone cuckoo.
The hype is beyond description,
Your value defies decryption.
But you look so nice,
At twice the price,
Of the budget that we just blew.
Blockchain, blockchain,
Showing up everywhere.
Fin-tech, insurance,
Farming, the vote, healthcare.
So what if it’s all in beta?
And can’t work with our data?
We love you so,
Please take our dough,
And together we’ll say a prayer.
Blockchain, blockchain.
Maybe we went to fast.
All those pilots,
None of them made to last.
There’s so much to fix already,
Before you and I go steady.
Perhaps next year
We’ll get in gear
Once the hype cycle we get past.
